Meet Katey Hawes, MS, PT, C-IAYT, E-RYT500, YACEP

Katey Hawes, MS, PT, C-IAYT, E-RYT500 is the lead trainer for this Tula Institute of Yoga 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training. Katey is a Licensed Physical Therapist, Certified Yoga Therapist, and Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher.

Katey has taught hundreds of students over the years, from therapeutic yoga to vigorous vinyasa, in various settings, including her own successful studio, health care settings, national and state conferences, retreats, and trainings. She founded the Tula Institute of Yoga and has offered Yoga Teacher training since 2014.

Katey has a passion for supporting others in realizing their greatest potential, passing on the knowledge that she has gained from her many teachers, and sharing the many benefits of the ancient practice of Yoga for health, happiness, and healing.

Education & Training

Katey has been practicing as a physical therapist for the past 20+ years. She has a Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA, and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education / Sports Management from the State University of New York at Cortland College, Cortland, NY. She received her 200-hour Yoga Teacher certification from the Shala Institute of Yoga in Bridgton, ME, and her Advanced Teacher of Therapeutic Yoga Certification from Integrative Yoga Therapy. She is an experienced 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT500) and a Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) through the International Association of Yoga Therapists. She studied Thai Yoga Bodywork and Advanced Thai Yoga Medical Massage with Shiva Shakti School of Yoga and Healing Arts in Union, Maine, and the Thai Healing Arts Training Center in Westminster, Colorado. She has completed many different continuing education trainings in yoga, yoga therapy, rehabilitative and therapeutic Pilates, and Physical Therapy over the years. She enjoys integrating her in-depth knowledge to provide her students with valuable and rewarding learning experiences.
